Metal Urns for Ashes

Metal urns for ashes are hard-wearing, and the full-size urns here close with a threaded or screw-top lid to keep the ashes secure.

Choose hand-finished brass urns in shades from silver to copper leaf, a bronze-coloured aluminium urn that's lighter to carry, or a smaller metal urn for a pet or a keepsake.

Choosing a metal urn

Brass

Brass is the heavier choice, and each single design comes in an adult size holding 3 to 3.4 litres and a 7cm keepsake for sharing. The Superior Silver brass urn shows the classic finish, and other designs come in colours such as Ocean Blue & Pewter or Copper Leaf.

Aluminium

The bronze aluminium urn costs less than brass and weighs less too. It has a glossy bronze finish and a screw-top lid, and it holds the ashes of an adult up to 90kg (about 14 stone).

Pet and keepsake sizes

Our eight paw-print metal pet urns are finished by hand in different colours, such as the turquoise Tiffany Grace pet urn. Each of the eight holds 1.8 litres, enough for a medium to large pet.

For a share of an adult's ashes, the ivory and white metal teardrop holds 0.7 litres and comes with an urn bag, a filling coin and a felt pad.

Most urns on this page can sit on a display plinth with a brass or silver plaque engraved with up to 75 characters, at no extra cost.

Common questions about metal urns

Are metal urns sealed?

They close securely. Our brass designs have a threaded lid that screws down tight, and the aluminium urn has a screw-top lid to stop any spills.

Can a metal urn be buried?

Yes, the brass designs can be buried as well as displayed. Brass won't break down in the soil, so if the burial ground asks for something biodegradable, choose one of our biodegradable urns.

Can I take a metal urn on a plane?

Usually not. Airport X-ray machines can't see through most metal, so security is likely to refuse an urn they can't check. For the flight, carry the ashes in a printed scatter tube and move them into the urn when you arrive.

Do you have metal urns for cats?

Yes. The Nuna urns are sleek metal figures of a sitting cat with a polished silver collar, in white, onyx or dark brown. Each holds 0.6 litres, plenty for a cat.
